The CINS Student Symposium will be held on Friday, October 25th, 2019 in University Hall (UH) Room 112. The symposium will feature a collection of 15 minute student talks (12 minute presentation + 3 minute Q&A) designed to showcase graduate and undergraduate student research projects carried out with the aid of neutron scattering techniques.
PRELIMINARY SCHEDULE:
Session I (1:30 to 3:00 pm)
0. Introduction and Welcome
1. Sebastian Himbert (McMaster): The Bending Rigidity of Red Blood Cell Membranes Determined from Solid-Supported Multi-lamellar Membranes
2. Dalini Maharaj (McMaster): Octupolar vs Neel Order in Cubic 5d2 double perovskites
3. Michael Nguyen (Windsor): SANS to Probe Lipid Flip-Flop in Asymmetric Liposomes
4. Bo Yuan (Toronto): In-plane Magnetic Anisotropy Generated by Quantum Zero-point Fluctuations in a Tetragonal Quantum Antiferromagnet Bi2CuO4
5. Elena Timakova (McMaster): Development of a scintillator-based MR-compatible neutron meter: A prototype detector
Intermission/Coffee Break (3:00 to 3:30 pm)
Session II (3:30 to 4:30 pm)
6. Mitchell DiPasquale (Windsor): The Effect of the Antioxidant Vitamin E on Cell Membrane Organization
7. Melissa Henderson (IQC/Waterloo): Above Room Temperature Skyrmions and Neutron Tomography
8. Eva Mueller (McMaster): Cationic, anionic, and amphoteric dual pH/temperature-responsive degradable microgels via self-assembly of functionalized oligomeric precursor polymers
